PERU

For years, I had seen pictures and read of Machu Picchu. Finally, in 2010, after much planning, we arrived in Peru, the ancient capital of the Inca world.

We proceeded from the Peruvian Amazon jungle, with its enormous rainforest and biodiversity, to Cusco, the historic capital of the Inca Empire. After several days of acclimatizing to the altitude of 11,000 feet, we ascended by train to Machu Picchu. This is an enormous expanse of land situated on a mountain range above the Sacred Valley. Considered the most important icon of the advanced civilization of the Incas, Machu Picchu is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
